"I've been working out at a CrossFit gym for the past 18 months. When I started, my goal was to look fit & muscular, like an athlete. I saw results the first 3 months but I look no different after a full year or working harder. My coach says it's my diet, but my diet is probably better than his. And when I look around the gym I see the same women who have been there for years and they look exactly the same too. Why? How can all that exercise not make a dent in the way I look or they look?"

I had a simple answer for her. I said, "the reason is simple. Middle-aged women don't respond to diet  and exercise the same way they once did."

She looked confused.

I continued, "when you tried to lose weight in the past, what used to work for you? 

She answered cautiously, "well, I would exercise more and try to eat less."

"Exactly," I said. "And is that working for you now?"

"No! I don't understand why." She replied.

I explained to her that, whether you're aware of it or not, the female body gets drastically more sensitive as we age. It can no longer handle the stress from harder, longer workouts on top of a life with more responsibilities.

When it feels stressed, it shuts down by doing a variety of things - one of those is being very resistant to losing weight. 

In other words, women over 35 will no longer see results by pushing themselves in the gym day in and day out.

So the secret to middle-aged fat loss is being a master at your energy balance- learning how to balance input and output so the body doesn't cling to weight due to stress.

Research tells us that 90% of the women that workout do so because they want to look better, plain and simple.

Go to any gym and you'll notice that the most dedicated women are working harder, eating better and are more consistent than the men... and yet the women don't get near the results that men do from the same amount of effort. 

And that's because women don't respond to diet and exercise the same way men do...and the traditional diets on the market today don't take into account the differences in the female hormones. 

Popular diets, templates and macro coaches that are focused on eating less and working out more were designed to work for men, not women- and certainly not older women or fitness-loving women.  

We aren't told this because only recently have women been included in the dieting research. Instead, we're told that "if you're not getting results, then you're just not working hard enough". 

The truth is, for women, it's NOT about working harder. In fact, working harder is the reason why you don't look as good as you should

It is SOO much easier than you make it out to be. And once you learn my method, you'll wonder why it's taken you this long to figure out.

who am i?

My name is Natalie Newhart and what I'm about to share with you comes directly from my 15 year experience as a personal trainer, professional athlete and a chic whose worked with thousands of fitness-loving women just like you.

As a personal trainer, ninety percent of the people I worked with were women... hard-working women. Almost all of them were in their thirties, forties and fifties struggling to look the way they wanted no matter how hard they tried. 

They were frustrated with lack of results, overwhelmed with busy lives and confused with all the contradictory information in the world of health and fitness.

In my personal experience, these women were hard workers and took their body change efforts seriously. They were willing to do whatever anyone asked, and they actually did whatever they were told to do... 
but regardless of how great they ate or how hard they worked out, they still struggled to see any progress .


i was failing my clients...

In the beginning, I was like every other nutrition coach out there too...
I was handing out your standard eat less and exercise more protocols. 

My coaching consisted of “Here, just hit these numbers” or “Eat this and don’t eat that.”

My male clients got results that way. 
But 90% of my clients were females, and they did NOT get the same results like the men did. Most of them very little changes, if any. 

At first, I just assumed my female client wasn't being compliant at home with her diet.

But overtime, I realized they couldn’t all be non-compliant with the diet. Most of the women I worked with had a work ethic just as strong as mine, and a food log that was better than mine!

But I couldn’t figure out what it was… until something happened.

The same thing happened to me. 

I found myself exercising ridiculously hard everyday and not getting any results. 
I actually exercised my way to gaining 20lbs in 2 months, becoming pre-diabetic and hypothyroid. My metabolism shut down on me completely. 

It was a blessing in disguise as this was my my ah-ha moment to figuring out why soo many women can be exercising like crazy, eating in a deficit and not seeing any results. 

I became obsessed with learning the research on stress and the female metabolism and what I learned was shocking...

So many women are struggling to see results not because they aren't working hard enough, but because they're working TOO hard. And I was one of them. 

The issue is usually NOT a result of a bad diet, too many calories, not enough exercise, or your hypothyroidism. 

It's a result of too much stress! 

Just as you can eat your way to fat, you can stress your way to fat… and women over 30 are having this issue.

Little did I know that the traditional dieting approach I was using on my past female clients was actually making it almost impossible for them to stick with the program.

Today, I use a completely different approach on my female clients where the priority is NOT on diet and exercise but rather on stress management and hormones. 

Let me tell you a story about some past clients of mine to illustrate...

my 2 most important clients

When I was just starting out as a personal trainer and nutrition coach, paleo diets, macros, and CrossFit were all the rage (still is, I guess).

I had two clients, Karen and Aleja. Both were exercise junkies that loved to workout but were struggling to see their body look as hard as they worked. 

Karen was someone that was following a competitive online program out of her home gym, which just means that she did more volume than the normal program. She was 43 years old and no intention of competing. Like many of us, she just assumed that more was better. Her entire workout routine would take her about 3 hours to complete. 

The other client, Aleja, was also training out of her home gym. When she came to me, she had tried all the coaches and all the diets- all of which nothing worked.  I was her last string of hope. She was tired of coaches assuming she was cheating on her diet at home and that she just wasn't working hard enough. She had been doing the plan perfectly was fed up with the lack of results. 

Karen was strong and fit aerobically but did not look like someone who worked out 3 hours a day. In fact, she was actually GAINNG weight pretty steadily when she came to me. She would get jealous when she saw her super fit-looking neighbor down the street always going out to eat and doing weekend activities. Those were things Karen wanted to do but she saw them as "off limits" to her lean body goals. In addition to her weight gain, Karen had severe gas and bloating, felt exhausted in her workouts and was constantly craving carbs.

Aleja was also super disciplined with her diet and exercise routine. She did her workouts regardless of how her body felt, because that's what her coach told her to do. She, too, had severe gas and bloating, along with large swings during her menstrual cycle. Right before her cycle started, she would blow up like a water balloon, get extremely hungry, tired and irritable.  

Both of them had a decent amount of fat to lose, and were shocked that their time spent in the gym and kitchen wasn't making a dent. 

Each of them had their “trouble area.” 
Karen had a lot of belly fat, which was increasing by the day.
Aleja had more fat and cellulite in her hips, butt and thigh area that would not budge.

Their hard-earned muscles were hidden under an exceptionally stubborn layer of fat. And no matter how hard they tried, their bodies were resistant to change.

They both came to me crying with the same statement, "Nat, I've tried everything and nothing has worked!"

I felt for them as I had been in their same exact shoes, working like a dog and not seeing any change. 

I knew I could help them. 

They were hesitant at first because they had lost so much trust with past coaches and because my prices were higher than their former coach.  But their body meant everything to them. They knew that they would show up in the world differently and that confidence was priceless.   

So we got to work. 


how their lives Changed

I took a very specific and different approach with both women. They were at different ages, different life stages, had different issues and different personal preferences. Never would I give the same exact plan to two very different women  (which is the problem I see with one-size-fits-all diets).

With Karen, we did a full gut protocol to begin with. It didn't matter how much exercise she was doing or how great her diet was. Her gut was inflamed, unable to absorb nutrients, and the stress from that was causing her to gain weight rapidly. 

With Aleja, we took a more hormonal approach. She expressed all the classics signs of estrogen dominance as well as metabolic disfunction from too much stress.

With both women, the protocols consisted of taking stress off the system so that diet and exercise had the ABILITY to work again. 

Once the 2 women had the ability for diet and exercise to work, thats when the fun part began: the re-shaping of their body by cycling their diet and workouts with their menstrual cycle. 

Neither of them had been taught how much stress impacted them, nor how much of an asset their menstrual cycle was. There are certain weeks of a women's cycle where she's able to eat more food without storing fat, build muscle more quickly, and burn fat more easily.

It worked. 

Both women started to see fat loss quickly, steadily and in all the right places.. 

Karen. was losing it in he belly. And Aleja stubborn lower body fat was starting to disappear. 

Both finally started to see their fit, athletic body appear. 
They were shocked. I was not. I had done it hundreds of times with similar women.

Today, they carry themselves with the confidence they always wanted. 

It wasn't until working with me did they find out what they had been doing it wrong all along.

It's not that they weren't working hard enough, like all their previous coaches told them.
It was because they had been WORKING TOO HARD!!!!


why hard work does not pay off

You know the saying, "Hard work pays off"?  Well, I discovered it certainly does NOT pay off when you're using the wrong strategy with the female metabolism.

And to me, there's nothing more frustrating than working your butt off for something and to not see any return.

What I discovered back then, and research confirms today, is that the female metabolism is more sensitive to stress. Unlike the male metabolism that has testosterone working for it, the female metabolism is more stress reactive, meaning it will not let go of fat when it feels stressed.

This stress causes changes in female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, which are required for women to develop and keep the beautiful hourglass shape that is the hallmark of the female physique.

The common stressors that cause this include:
✅ Workouts that are too long, too intense or too frequent 
✅ Eating too little 
✅ Not sleeping enough
✅ Living a go-go-go lifestyle 
✅ Feeling in a constant state of anxiety, overwhelm, and frustration


Contrary to what you'd think, the harder women work, the more resistant to fat loss they become. Older women will actually gain belly fat the  harder they work!

The frustrating part: the women I work with LOVE to workout. It's their release, their happy place. It doesn't feel like stress to them.

But I quickly realized that it doesn't matter how much they want to workout... it's about what her hormones want. 

Thats the issue I see over and over. What women want and what their hormones want are two different things. Women want to workout and her hormones want her to chill out.

I help find that happy medium where both parties are happy, where the hormones are balanced and the woman gets her abs.

By managing workout volume and intensity through my signature Green-Yellow-Red system, I'm able to decrease stress on the metabolism, but still deliver just enough of a stimulus to get results.

As a fitness lover myself that struggled with the more is better mentality, I knew I had to develop a system that would allow women to get results without exhausting themselves in the gym.  

I came up with the Green-Yellow-Red system that finds the perfect combination of hard days, medium days and easy days to find the perfect dose of workouts each woman needs to change the way her body looks.

my story, my struggle

It's a little embarrassing, but I want you to know I have struggled too.

The first thing you should know about me is that I have been a gym junkie since the age of twelve.

As long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a pro athlete in some sport or another. I did every sport under the sun, from tennis to dirtbiking to horseback riding. The gym was a big part of my life as I knew I had to be in shape to be one of the best.

I stayed lean and fit right up until the age of 30 and then something pretty dramatic happened.

While I was a professional CrossFit athlete training 5-6 hours a day, I also owned a gym and did nutrition coaching on the side. 

Starting at 330am everyday, I would bounce between training, coaching and managing up until 10pm at night. 

I would then sleep 5 hours only to repeat it all over for another 4am wake-up time.

I would rest up as best I could between clients and classes, and then go through a strenuous set of training sessions to maintain my peak fitness. I repeated that ferocious schedule for 8 years.

Have you ever been so scared to wake up and go the gym because you had nothing left in you, but felt like you HAD to go?

Well, I can tell you it is painful to the bones. The gym becomes your torture chamber rather than the happy place it once used to be.

And my training back then wasn't a walk in the park. Back then, my warmup alone consisted of 60 minutes worth of intense cardio sprints with very specific pacing targets. And if I didn't hit my pace, I punished myself to do more.

After living this schedule for 8 years, and suffering the debilitating fatigue and unrelenting hunger and cravings that ensued, my body deccided to shut down on me. I went from 125 pounds to 150 pounds! (this is a lot for girl that stands 5 feet tall on a good day)

And most of this weight came on in a 2 month period!! And it happened while I was working out the hardest!!

I also diagnosed myself with hypothyroid, adrenal fatigue, pre-diabetes and severe vitamin D deficiency.

For a short time after that, I got my shit together and started taking care of myself.

I cut back on the number of hours I was working out and classes that I was coaching. I did what I needed to do to get healthy and lean again.

Fast forward about 6 months later and I was back to several workouts a day, late nights, crazy hours and a hectic schedule trying to run a gym, compete in CrossFt and build an online business. 

Before I knew it I ballooned back up to 150 pounds and was feeling worse than ever. 

I'm not sure why I didn't learn my lesson the first time, but this time, I just kept on working harder. 

My online business was becoming successful and felt even more pressure to look my best and keep the momentum going. 

Thinking I could out exercise, and out eat the problem, I started dieting harder than ever and working out even more. Guess what happened?

NOTHING!! In fact, worse than nothing. I was feeling worse and if I let up on my hectic regime even a little bit I ballooned up, looked puffy and gained fat.

I would wake up in the morning looking like the picture above.

I was working the hardest I ever had and I could not make a dent in my weight.

One of the things that was most problematic is that the approach I was taking eventually always led to a binge of some sort.

As an example, I would get a burst of motivation (a welcome break from the mental fatigue and lethargy), and I would hit the gym hard!!

Then I would be completely wiped out. On the bad days, I felt like I had been slipped a date rape drug because I was so tired, I couldn't even keep my eyes open. My hunger and cravings also skyrocketed; all I could think about was what I was gonna eat in my next meal, and what my next workout would be. I was no longer eating and exercising for health. I was addicted. A sickness.

It was like a boomerang. The longer or more intense I worked out, the harder my metabolic boomerang would whip back against me.

After seeing this phenomena play out in client after client, I gave it a name. I have come to call this phenomenon “the workout boomerang!”

The lean body I once had was slipping further and further away the harder I tried.

I kept “eating clean” and I kept working out like crazy despite having little motivation and feeling like crap.

I went on thyroid medications and took a ton of supplements and herbs. None of it worked that well.

I could not lose the fat and the fatigue and brain fog were becoming unrelenting.

Have you ever felt so tired that it actually hurts?

Or slept an entire night and felt like you were half conscious the entire time?

It is miserable right? Well, that was me.

What's funny is that by this point in my career I was known for getting people results. I had already worked with many individuals just like Karen and Aleja.

For some reason I had a mental block to using this approach on myself.

I thought it didn't apply to me.

I thought, “I'm different. I'm a pro athlete. I know the right workouts to do and these are them. Besides, I love my workouts.”

Maybe you can relate? We humans are funny creatures aren’t we?

We have this incredible ability to be objective and logical when it comes to others, but when we are dealing with ourselves we can often become delusional and irrational.

Even though I had worked with many others, in devising smarter ways to exercise I convinced myself the solution did not apply to me.

Finally, I relented and instituted the plan. And like my other female clients dealing with the same issue, the fat started coming off and the muscle started coming back.

I was able to reduce, and then get off my thyroid meds. And I lost weight!

Big Mistake #1
Eating and training like a guy!

This one should be self-evident, but it's not. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people say:

"It doesn't matter, there's no differences in the way men and women should train. The principles of burning fat and building muscle are the same."

Of course this is almost always stated by guys. 🙄And the truth is, they're right from one perspective. The human metabolism is mostly the same between men and women. In fact, 99.9999% is the same.

BUT... there's a reason women look like women and guys look like guys. The major reason comes from the hormonal influences of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.

These three hormones impact the metabolism in such a way that changes the way men and women respond to diets and exercise. 

For example, there's certain times in a woman's menstrual cycle where the food she eats will be used to build more muscle and certain times where she will store more fat off the same amount of food!

Likewise, there are times of the month where she'll burn more fat when she trains harder, and there are times where training harder will actually cause her to GAIN fat! 😳

Kinda useful to know, ya think? 

That's the power behind the female hormones!

It's also useful to know how birth control and HRTs are affecting your ability to burn and build. These details change the game entirely!

Does this mean women can't get results by eating and training like men?

No, they most certainly can. However, women will see much faster results when they eat and train in way that is specific to their metabolic differences... especially aging women.

Big Mistake #2

Eating and training like a young woman!

Never would I put a 50 year old woman on the same diet plan as a 25 year old woman. 

The body changes dramatically as we age.

Women are born with 2 hormones, Estrogen and Progesterone.
These hormones are what makes us look and act like women. Because of our role as the child-bearer, these 2 hormones influence the amount of stress we can take on and the amount of fat we store. 

The body is more protective than a guy's and stores fat more readily at certain times because it's trying to create a safe environment for a potential baby. 

See these 2 hormones as our best friends. When they are around, we can eat more, train more, and live the high stress go-go-go lifestyle without it affecting our body shape. 💪

But as we age, these 2 hormones start to drop off. This is known as menopause. All of a sudden, the diets and workouts that used to work for us no longer work. And the harder we try to cut down calories or workout more, the worse our body gets. 😬

Working harder will actually lead to increased belly fat even if the woman is getting leaner every where else!

Studies are showing that the women with the highest amounts of belly fat are a result of too much stress, not too much food! 🤔

As a woman, this is critical for you to understand because every woman will need to change their approach to diet and exercise as they age and get closer to menopause.

A young 20 year old woman can handle the stress from life, exercise and restrictive diets more easily, but older women will find themselves spinning their wheels or gaining weight if not managed appropriately.

For this reason, aging women will benefit more from a diet and training approach that is specific to their age! The women that go through the Female Hormone Diet get results because of this.

Big Mistake #3

Following protocols.

The final big mistake is the protocol problem. Most women love to believe there's only one way to do things and all we need to do is do it. 


"Just tell me what do do and I'll do it," says nearly every woman I've worked with.


That is the absolute WRONG way to think about it.


How in the world do you expect to find a plan that works for you if you don't even know what works for you? 


One-size-fits-all diet protocols have conditioned women to be so disconnected with their own body that they don't even know when they should eat!


Most women are so stressed the f**k out, they can't tell the difference between when they're actually hungry and when they're eating out of emotion, let alone how to manage their stress eating patterns.

WEEK 1: RED WEEK - TONE
Chances are, right  now your body doesn't even have the ability to burn fat or build muscle no matter how hard you work. The first week resets this, so that your diet and workouts can start to work again. Women typically lose 2-8 lbs in the first 5 days, mostly from the belly, and WITHOUT ever feeling hungry. 

WEEK 2: BLACK WEEK - BURN
This week is about burning stubborn body fat. We will eat less and exercise more. Results are accelerated when tailored with the menstrual cyle.

WEEK 3: GREEN WEEK - BUILD
